Robert Haniford Commons was born in Ballarat and enlisted from there on 13th September 1917. He was allocated to the 24th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 6789A. He was 28 years old, single and employed as a physicist. On 19th May 1918 he was killed in action during the fighting at Ville-sur-Ancre, and is buried in the
Ribemont Communal Cemetery, France.
