Biography

Donald Alexander Teasdale (SN 5228 & 7455) was born at Rupanyup and attended the Lallat Plains State School. He first enlisted on June 18th 1915 as a 22 year old student at Ballarat’s St Aiden’s College. He joined the camel Corps and sailed to Egypt. While on sentry duty on December 31st 1916 he accidentally shot himself through the left ankle, was subsequently assessed as medically unfit for active service, returned to Australia and was discharged on May 30th 1917. On November 5th 1917 he re-enlisted in Ballarat, This time he was assigned to the 14th Battalion, 16th Reinforcements, and embarked once again on November 21st 1917. He joined his unit in France on March 18th 1918 but was killed in action just 12 days later on March 30th 1918. He is buried in the Gommecourt British Cemetery.
