William Ridgeway enlisted in Broadmeadows, Victoria at the age of 30 on the 20th of October 1916. He had been born in Glen Iris, Victoria, was Married, and was employed as an Accountant. He volunteered and was stationed with the 39th Battalion, 8th Reinforcements later transferring to the 11th Field Artillery Brigade with the Regimental number 3272. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 19th of June 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as William J. Ridgway.
