William John Ridgeway (SN 3372) was born in Melbourne where he enlisted as a 30 year old accountant on January 30th 1918. Within a week he had embarked from Sydney aboard the Wiltshire. Initially posted to the 39th Battalion he was transferred to the 11th Field Artillery Brigade but did not reach France until hostilities had ceased. He returned to Australia aboard the Miltiades and was discharged on August 29th 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as William J. Ridgway.
