Biography

Lewis Thomas King was born in Sheppards Flat, Vic, and was a Tailor by trade when he enlisted in the 58th Battalion, 10th Reinforcement on 13 November 1917 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Ormonde on 7 March 1918 for the final months of the war. Whilst in England awaiting his return to Australia, he was granted three months special leave to enable him to attend the London Tailors and Cutters Academy. He returned to Australia and completed his commitment to the AIF in October 1919.
