Biography

Albert Edward Belcher (SN 3017) was born in Ballarat but enlisted in Mordialloc on July 12th 1915. He was 25, a carpenter, and married to Annie. He sailed from Melbourne on September 29th aboard the Osterley before joining the 5th Battalion in Egypt. He moved to France in March 1916 and in April he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In July, a foot injury took him out of the line until mid-November but he was killed in action at Gueudecourt on December 12th 1916. He was 26 years of age. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
