Biography

George Stewart Grant was born in Ballarat and was a Hair dresser by trade when he enlisted in the 2nd Field Ambulance, Reinforcement 13 on 10 June 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 29 December 1915. In March 1916 he was transferred to the 6th Field Ambulance then moved to France. In July he found himself in trouble for being involved in æa disturbance at an estaminet and destroying civilian property to the extent of five francs'. In April 1917 he was transferred to the 2nd Australian General Hospital and served out the remainder of the war without significant incident. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff on the Runic, disembarking at Melbourne on June 10th 1919.
