Biography

William Lowry Shillington was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and an Accountant when he enlisted with the 16th Battalion, 25th Reinforcement on 4 March 1917 at the age of 43. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A30 Borda on 29 June 1917. On 26 August 1917 he marched into the 4th Training Battalion at Codford and in December he was attached with the 44th Battalion. Other than a brief visit to hospital for illness (undefined) he completed his tour without major incident, illness or injury, returning home to Australia on 23 July 1919.
