Samuel Richard Adams (SN 3227) was born in Ballarat but was a 33 year old builder’s labourer in Melbourne when he enlisted on August 7th 1915. He trained with the 8th Depot battalion in Melbourne before embarking aboard the Nestor on October 11th. After further training in Egypt, he reached France on April 2nd 1916 to serve with the 6th Battalion. Just a month later, on May 5th, he suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was evacuated to hospital in England. After a period of treatment, it was determined that he should be returned to Australia. He Left England on June 24th aboard the Euripides and disembarked at Melbourne on August 5th 1916. He was discharged on January 25th 1917.
