Biography

Robert Radclyffe Hallett (SN 163) was born in Windsor. On 16th January 1915 he enlisted at East Prahran, aged 31, married to Maude Hallett, and listed his profession as a master painter, living at Highbury Grove, East Prahran at the time of his enlistment, stating he trained to be a mining engineer at the Ballarat School of Mines. He embarked from Melbourne on board the Ulysses on May 10th 1915.

He served as a corporal with the 21st Infantry Battalion fighting at Gallipoli at the end of August 1915, transferring to the 57th Infantry Battalion, fighting in France, and promoted to Sergeant April 4th 1916. He spent some time, being seriously ill due to haemorrhoids and jaundice. On July 31st 1916 he was killed during the fighting at Fleurbaix, aged 32.

He is buried in Rue-Du-Bois Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
