Biography

Robert Radclyffe Hallett (SN 163) was born in Melbourne but was educated in Ballarat. As a 31 year old painter, married to Maude, he enlisted on 16th January 1915. He was posted to 21st Infantry Battalion and embarked in May on board the Ulysses.
He served as a corporal with the 21st Infantry Battalion fighting at Gallipoli in late August. He was then transferred to the 57th Infantry Battalion, fighting in France, and promoted to Sergeant in April 1916.
On July 31st 1916 he was killed during the fighting at Fleurbaix, aged 32.
He is buried in Rue-Du-Bois Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Clyffe R. R. Hallet.
