Biography

David Heathcote Melrose (Heath) Robertson (SN 2041) was born at Sebastopol and attended the Redan and Sebastopol State Schools. He was an 18 year old, unmarried mechanic, when he enlisted on July 14th 1915. He was drafted to the 22nd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on board the Anchises in August. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli in December and evacuated to Heliopolis for treatment. He left Egypt for England in August 1916 and rejoined the 22nd Battalion in France on Christmas Day. On September 22nd 1917 he was killed in action near Zonnebeke, and is buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery, Zillebeke, Belgium.
