Charles Phillips was born in Ballarat and enlisted in Ballarat East on 10th March 1916 . He was a labourer, aged 22 and unmarried. He was posted to 39th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 2202. He was killed in action at Passchendaele on 12th December 1917. His name is on Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
