Albert Ernest Elliott (SN 6804A), born in Ballarat, was a 33 year old bricklayer, married to Florence, when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 16th 1917. It was not until November 21st that he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Nestor, sailing first to Egypt and then on to England in March 1918. Shortly after arriving in England, he was hospitalised for two weeks suffering from influenza. On May 30th 1918 he reached France to serve with the 22nd Infantry Battalion. He was wounded in action, gassed, in July and, although he appeared to recover quickly, the remainder of his service was impacted by medical issues, particularly rheumatism. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Hospital Transport Frankfurt, disembarking at Melbourne on August 20th 1919. He was 71 years of age when he died in April 1955.
