William Martin O’Shannessy (SN 14790) born at Kingower, central Victoria, was a 29 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on October 5th 1916. Assigned to the Australian Army Service Corps he embarked from Sydney on September 9th 1917 and in November he reached France to serve as a driver. He served with the 2nd Division Train, avoiding serious injury or illness, and at war’s end he returned aboard the Mahia, reached Melbourne on July 17th 1919 and was discharged on August 16th.
