Richard Berryman (SN 1837 / 5299) born at Ballarat, was a 34 year old baker when he enlisted in Ballarat on December 16th 1914. With the 14th Infantry Battalion, he embarked on March 20th 1915 aboard the Ulysses. He reached Gallipoli in late May and served there for three months until malaria forced his evacuation. Once recovered he was transferred to the 1st Field Bakery in France, and he served out the war without major illness or injury. He returned to Australia on the Lancashire, disembarked at Fremantle on March 21st 1919 and was discharged in Perth on May 20th.
