George Gordon Simpson was born in Warracknabeal, but enlisted from Ballarat on 23rd October 1916. He was 27 years of age, unmarried and a bookseller. He was allocated to 4th Field Artillery Brigade, with Regimental No. 32406. On 20th September 1918 he died of wounds inflicted at the Hindenberg Line. He is buried in St Sever Communal Cemetery, Rouen, France.
