Biography

Born in Ballarat, Robert Roland Hamilton was a married 29 year old wood merchant at the time of his enlistment in Perth, Western Australia, on the 16th of November 1916. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A28 Miltiades on the 29th of January 1917.
On the 26th of September 1917 he was wounded in action but remained at duty. On the 20th of October 1917, Robert was wounded on a second occasion. He was admitted to hospital on the 4th of November 1917 for gas poisoning.
He returned to Australia on the 22nd of May 1918, and was discharged on the 13th of June 1918 as medically unfit.
