Henry (Harry) Beattie (SN 1725) born in Melbourne, was a married 24 year old tailor when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 31st 1916. He trained with both the Medical Corps and the Australian Flying Corps before he embarked from Sydney aboard the Beltana on June 16th 1917. He served in England and France primarily as an air mechanic with the A.F.C. He returned to Australia aboard the Kaiser-i-Hind, disembarked at Melbourne on June 16th 1919 and was discharged on July 16th.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Harry Beattie.
