Biography

John Robert Grenfell, A Salvation Army officer from Saint Arnaud, Victoria, enlisted in the 14th Australian General Hospital on 7 March 1916. He was 37 and married to R E Grenfell at the time of his enlistment. Aside from a brief bout with illness on 31 August 1918, his nursing duties took him to a variety of locations including trips to and from Australia regularly. Private Grenfell received a medical discharge and returned to Australia 27 January 1919, although the nature of the discharge was not readily apparent.
