Thomas Edward Perry, a miner from Ballarat, enlisted in the 4th Machine Gun Company on 14 September 1915 at the age of 21. He was married to Mrs Q E Perry of Victoria Street, Sebastapol . His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A35 Berrima on 16 December 1916. He was wounded in action on 16 June 1917. On 1 April 1918 he was transferred to the 4th Machine Gun Battalion. He received his discharge and returned to Australia 15 June 1919
He was awarded the Military Medal 'for coolness and initiative during the operations against the HINDENBURG LINE on 18th September 1918.'
