Biography

Henry "Harry" Charles Pinney (SN 630) was born in Ballarat but was working as a fireman in Melbourne when he enlisted on December 20th 1916. The 27 year old was assigned to the Railway Unit as a 2nd Corporal and embarked from Melbourne on board the Ballarat two months later. A month after arriving in England, he was transferred to France with the 1st Australian Light Rail Operating Company. His overseas service appears to have been relatively uneventful and he returned to Australia after the war ended on board the Konigin Luise, disembarking on August 13th 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Harry C. Pinney.
