Henry Charles Pinney, a fireman from Ballarat, enlisted in the Railway unit on 20 December 1916 at the age of 27. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on 19 February 1917. His unit marched in to Bordon on 29 April 1917 and then to France on 29 May 1917. He was then reassigned to the 1st A.L.R.O. Company and promoted to 2nd Corporal. He returned to Australia 21 June 1919
