Biography

Francis 'Frank' Lillis, a Railway Employee from Allandale, Vic, enlisted in the 5th Battalion, G Company on 4 August 1914 at the age of 30. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A3 Orvieto on 21 October 1914. Pte Frank Lillis was awarded the Military Medal for being 'an æoriginal' soldier whose steadiness under trying circumstances in September and October, 1917, was of great value to his Officers, setting a fine example. He could always be relied upon to replace N.C.O.s in cases of emergency.' He returned to Australia 15 September 1918.
