Harold Nelson Ferguson (SN 9123A) born in Melbourne, was a 23 year old schoolteacher when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 19th 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before he embarked aboard the Karoola on December 19th and sailed via Egypt to England. In September 1916 he was moved to France to serve with the 15th Field Ambulance. In April 1918 he was gassed and evacuated to hospital in England where he spent several months suffering from photophobia. He was returned to Australia aboard the Nestor, disembarked on February 1st 1919 and was discharged on March 18th.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as N. H. Ferguson.
