Biography

William Royal Selkirk (SN 2380) was born in Allendale and attended the Allendale State School. Unmarried, 19 years old, and employed as a coach builder, he enlisted at Ballarat on November 10th 1915. He joined the 4th Light Horse Regiment and embarked from Melbourne in April 1916 on board the Itria. On November 17th 1917 he died of wounds inflicted during the fighting in Mesopotamia, and is buried in the Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.
