Biography

William John Clarke was born at Donald, Victoria. He was a Motor Driver before enlistment. He was a single man and at age 20 joined up on the 2 November 1916 Melbourne, Victoria. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A34 Persic on 22 December 1916. Apparently he was found to be suffering from deafness in both ears and had some difficulty with that. He was reprimanded for various, absent at roll call and other military disciplines. Returned to Australia 27 August 1917. Tree No. 3181.
