Biography

Albert Biggs (SN 4443) was born at Bullarook near Ballarat and educated at the Bullarook State School. He was a 19-year-old labourer when he enlisted on July 15th 1915. He embarked aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916 and joined the 58th Battalion in France in June. In July 1916 he was wounded at Fromelles, suffering a gunshot wound to his hand. He rejoined his unit a month later. In May 1917 he was listed as missing in action near Bullecourt but a Court of enquiry in October determined he had been killed in action on May 12th 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux and on the honour board of the Bullarook State School. He was 21 years of age.
