Biography

Arnold Glover Herman (Brother of Frank Gabriel Herman, Tree No. 507) was born in Ballarat and a Clerk by trade when he enlisted in the Mechanical Transport Reinforcements on 20 August 1917 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 11 May 1917. He reached England towards the end of May, and in late August he moved to France attached to the 1st Motor Transport Company. He served out the final months of the war before seeking leave to undertake four months of non-military employment to enable him to gain 'experience in theatrical business'. He returned home on the Euripides, reaching Melbourne on October 20th 1919.
