Biography

Jack Barratt (SN 532) was born at Horsham and was a 25 year old engineer when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 17th 1914. On October 19th he embarked aboard the Hororata and on April 25th 1915 he landed at Gallipoli with the 6th Infantry Battalion. On May 1st he was wounded in action, suffering a bullet wound to his left arm, and evacuated to hospital at Mudros then England. He then served in France where he was wounded again in April 1917 and hospitalised several times due to illnesses including enteric fever, influenza and haematuria. He was returned to Australia, disembarking at Melbourne on May 10th 1918. He was discharged as medically unfit on June 11th 1918.
