Harry Osborne Hill (SN 523) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Pleasant Street State School. He was 34 years of age, married with 4 children, and employed as a farrier when he enlisted at Maryborough on August 18th 1914. He was assigned to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment and sailed from Australia on board the Star of Victoria in February 1915. He later transferred to the 8th Light Horse Regiment as Farrier Sergeant and remained in Egypt to look after horses when his unit was moved to Gallipoli where it took part in the tragic charge at The Nek. He died in hospital in Cairo on May 22nd1918 of "exhaustion following acute brain disease" and is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. He was 37 years of age.
