Biography

James Stanley Lindsay (SN 2007/Lt.) was born near Warrnambool and already had 18 months training at the Royal Military College when, as a 21 year old clerk, he enlisted in Melbourne on October 16th 1914. Allotted to the Australian Army Service Corps as a corporal he embarked aboard the Ceramic on December 22nd. He saw action at Gallipoli until jaundice forced his evacuation to Malta in October 1915. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in France in July 1916. He was troubled by tonsilitis then pneumonia and he was evacuated to England in February 1917, rejoining his unit in May. In September 1918 he was selected to undergo pilot training. After the war he departed England on November 1st 1919 aboard the Nestor and his appointment was terminated in Australia on December 29th. He also served during World War 2.
