Arthur William McCann (SN 412) born at Ballarat, was a 21 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 17th 1915. He embarked aboard the Euripides on May 8th to serve with the 23rd Infantry Battalion. He saw action at Gallipoli but frost-bitten feet caused him to be evacuated to England. Once recovered, he continued to train in England until he was able to rejoin his unit in France in June 1917. In July 1918 he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg which effectively ended his active service. He returned home aboard the Morvada, disembarked on February 20th 1919 and was discharged soon after. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V143553.
