William Joseph Horman MM (SN 1058) born at Ballarat, was a 20 year old boot packer when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 22nd 1915. On May 10th he embarked aboard the Ulysses, first to Egypt and then to France in March 1916 to serve with the 22nd Infantry Battalion. In mid-1917 he was attached for two months to the 2nd Division Signal Company before returning to the 22nd Battalion. In October 1917 he received wounds to his face and chest but his gallantry was recognised through the award of a Military Medal. He returned to Australia aboard the Trasos Montes, disembarked on May 22nd 1919 and was discharged on July 22nd. He served again (SN V364017) during World War 2.
