William McKenna (SN 907) born in Melbourne, was a 25 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on December 19th 1914. He embarked aboard the Palermo on May 7th, to Egypt then to Gallipoli in time for the August offensive. He served there with the 8th Light Horse Regiment until the evacuation in December. After Gallipoli he served in Egypt and Palestine and avoided battle wounds although he did have some illness problems. He returned to Australia aboard the Raranga, disembarked at Melbourne on October 27th 1919 and was discharged on November 26th.
