Biography

Charles Leslie Mollard (SN 610) born in Ballarat, was a 23 year old cabinet maker when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 22nd 1915. Assigned to the 23rd Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Euripides on May 8th and saw action at Gallipoli. After Gallipoli he was transferred to the 58th Battalion for service in France. In July 1916 he was wounded in action at Fromelles suffering a gunshot wound to his lower leg. He was evacuated to hospital and for a time while recovering he was attached to the 65th Battalion. He rejoined the 58th Battalion in October 1917 but was wounded again in July 1918, suffering a gunshot wound to his buttock. He returned to Australia aboard the Anchises, disembarked at Melbourne on April 13th 1919 and was discharged on June 16th.
