Biography

Robert Stennert Maurice Sandall (SN 1418), born at Donald, was a 19 year old driver when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 30th 1914. Attached to the 7th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Clan Mac Gillivray on February 2nd 1915. At Gallipoli on May 8th 1915 he suffered a bullet wound to his right hand and shoulder and was evacuated to hospital in Egypt. On April 4th 1916 he was admitted to hospital in Egypt suffering a chest wound; no detail in his service record. In May he left Egypt aboard the Kanowna and disembarked at Melbourne on June 15th. He was discharged on August 25th 1916 ‘medically unfit, paresis (weakness) of right hand due to bullet wound’.
