Biography

Percival Clive Curnow (SN 1897) born in Ballarat, was a 20 year old boot finisher when he enlisted in Ballarat on June 16th 1916. He embarked aboard the Anchises on August 26th and served at Gallipoli with the 21st Infantry Battalion for the final two months of that campaign. Back in Egypt he was transferred to the 2nd Pioneer Battalion then to the 2nd Tunnelling Company for service in France from March 1916. During his service he did have a couple of brushes with military authorities then in March 1918 he was wounded, gassed. Three months later, in June, he was again wounded, suffering a serious gunshot wound to his left arm. He was returned to Australia aboard the Suevic, disembarked at Melbourne on January 5th 1919 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on March 3rd.
