Albert Victor Watson MM (SN 2700) was born in Ross Creek where he attended the local state school. He enlisted on June 23rd 1915. He was 22 and single. He was drafted to the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked on September 15th on board the Makarini. He was at Gallipoli for the final days of that campaign then, while in Egypt, he was transferred to the 2nd Light Trench Mortar Battery. He served in France from March 1916 and was awarded a Military Medal for his gallantry and leadership during the advance on Herleville Wood on August 23rd 1918. He was severely wounded and he died on August 25th 1918 and is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery, France,
