Biography

Archibald Ormond Gilbert (SN 8014) born at Allendale, was a 21 year old grocer when he enlisted in Ballarat in July 23rd 1915. He embarked aboard the Bakara on November 8th and sailed to Egypt where he was assigned to the 29th Company, Australian Service Corps. He reached the Western Front in July and managed to avoid serious injury or illness during his service. He returned to Australia aboard the Devanha, disembarked at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919 and was discharged on August 15th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V371427.
