Daniel Bradby was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk by trade when he enlisted in the Infantry Brigade Train 8 on 7 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A41 Bakara on 5 November 1915. In June 1916 he joined the 5th Division Train in France and served through the war without major incident. He returned to Australia on the Devanha, disembarking at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919.
