William Dow (781) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Sebastopol State School. He was a 20 year old farm labourer when he enlisted in Dunolly in December 1914. Assigned to the 8th Light Horse Regiment he travelled first to Egypt on board the Pera and then to Gallipoli where he was killed in the futile charge at The Nek on August 7th 1915. His body was never recovered and he is remembered on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine.
