Biography

Edward Gerald Mitchell (SN 4253) born at Ballarat, was a 28 year old jockey when he enlisted at Ballarat in July 1915. He embarked aboard the Demosthenes on December 29th to serve with the 7th Infantry Battalion. During his service in France he was transferred to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade, but aside from some mild illnesses he came through the war unharmed. He returned to Australia aboard the Borda, disembarked at Melbourne on June 27th 1919 and was discharged on October 24th.
