Biography

William Patrick Cleary (SN 2148) was born in Ballarat and lived in Raglan Street. He was 22 years old, single and employed in Ballarat as a cordial maker when he enlisted on July 16th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne in September on board the Hororata with the 21st Battalion, with which he was posted to France in March 1916. On August 26th 1916 he was killed in the fighting at Mouquet Farm near Pozieres, France. He has no known grave but his name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
