Biography

William Hugh Hamilton was born at Natimuk but attended Ballarat High School before enrolling at the Duntroon Military College where he enlisted on November 3rd, 1914. He listed his father, Robert Hamilton, South Street, Ballarat, as his next of kin.

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 14th Battalion, aged 20, sailing from Australia just prior to Christmas, embarking from Melbourne, on board the Ulysses on 22 December 1914

He was killed in action at Gallipoli on May 18th 1915 and is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli. He was 21.

Commemorated on the Ballarat High School Roll of Honour.
