Biography

William Henry Causon (SN 2596) was a 27 year old miner at Berringa when he enlisted on July 16th 1915. He embarked on October 27th on the Ulysses, and sailed via Egypt to England. He was posted first to the 7th Battalion, then, transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion. Illness limited his deployment but in September 1916 he was posted, on permanent base duties, to the 1st Anzac Headquarters at Vignacourt in France. In February 1917 illness forced him to hospital and it was determined that he should return to Australia. He left England in April 1917 on the Barambah and reached Melbourne on June 9th. He was discharged in October 1917 ‘medically unfit’. He died in July 1955 aged 66.
