Andrew Waugh (SN 3946) born in Melbourne, was 29 when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 16th 1915. Assigned to the 14th Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd and sailed to Egypt. As the AIF was reorganising, he was transferred to the 46th Battalion before being moved to France in June 1916. In October 1917, while at Broodseinde in Belgium, he sustained a minor shrapnel wound to his back, but after treatment was able to remain on duty. In December 1917 he developed synovitis in his left knee and was evacuated to hospital in England. He rejoined his unit in France in May 1918 and served through the remainder of the war without major harm. He returned home aboard the Armagh, disembarked at Melbourne on May 18th 1919 and was discharged on July 10th.
