Biography

Michael William Aylward (SN 2102) was born in Mt Egerton but later moved to Sebastopol. He was 27 and employed as a stevedore when he enlisted at Melbourne on July 17th 1915. On September 27th he sailed from Melbourne aboard the Hororata to join the 21st Battalion. After some weeks in Egypt he reached France on March 26th 1916 where he was killed on August 26th during the fighting at Mouquet Farm and is buried in Aveluy Wood Cemetery, France. He was 28 years of age and is remembered on the honour board of the Mt. Egerton State School.
