Biography

Leo William Hall Anderson (Lt) from Lyons Street Ballarat, was educated at Ballarat High School. As a 19 year old he applied for a commission with the 8th Light Horse Regiment on November 3rd 1914. He undertook his officer training at the Royal Military College at Duntroon, then his Light Horse training at Broadmeadows. He embarked aboard the ‘Star of Victoria’ on February 25th 1915 and reached Gallipoli in May. He was wounded in the infamous charge at The Nek and died of his wounds on August 7th 1915. He was 20 years of age and is buried at Ari Burnu Cemetery at the north end of Anzac Cove.
