Born in Ballarat, George Holmes was a single 19 year old saddler when he enlisted on the 12th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 10th of November 1915.
He returned to Australia on the 23rd of June 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 15th of August 1919.
