Biography

George Holmes (SN 64) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old saddler when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 17th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on November 10th and in June 1916 he reached France to serve with the 29th Infantry Battalion. In October 1918 he was transferred to the 32nd Battalion and completed his service without significant injury or illness. He returned to Australia aboard the Devanha, disembarked at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919 and was discharged on August 15th.
