Biography

Roy Seddon was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Maltster when he enlisted in the 14th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement on 17 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. On 10 June 1916 he was admitted to 12th Field Ambulance, suffering mumps and was transferred overseas to England aboard the Hospital Transport Kingstonian. On 10 February 1917 he was admitted to hospital, suffering from a septic toe and in May 1917 he would be admitted to 1 London General Hospital for bronchitis. The bronchitis proved to be chronic, resulting in his return to Australia and discharge from service.
