Biography

David Beaumont (SN 4138) was a 25 year old labourer from Ripon Street Ballarat when he enlisted on August 18th 1915. He trained at Williamstown and Broadmeadows as a reinforcement for the 14th Battalion. He sailed from Melbourne on December 29th 1915 on the Demosthenes and joined his battalion in France in early 1916. Before the year’s end however a battle wound (gunshot wound to the hand) and an accidental injury (horse kick to the left leg/hip) combined to render him unfit for active service. He sailed from England on November 12th, on the Wiltshire, disembarked in Melbourne on New Year's Eve 1916 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ in early 1917. He died in June 1971.
