John Patrick Garvey (SN 856) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old grocer when he enlisted on July 19th 1915. On November 8th he embarked aboard the Wandilla and sailed to Egypt. He served through the war with the Camel Corps and the 14th Light Horse Regiment , experienced some health issues, but avoided battle wounds. He returned to Australia on the Somali, disembarked on February 8th 1919 and was discharged on March 25th.
